Spring CERT Classes Slated For Ashland


ASHLAND CERT
SPRING TRAINING CLASSES SLATED FOR APRIL 2, 2003


EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS TRAINING IN ASHLAND
Ashland's free Community Emergency Response Team (CERT)  Basic Training* classes are set to begin April 2nd . Interested individuals must pre-register as class size is limited. The age requirement is 14 or older. No prior skills or abilities are necessary.

Ashland's CERT program, overseen by the Ashland Fire & Rescue Department, is divided into 5 geographic areas and implemented through neighborhood teams. Teams are activated should an emergency overwhelm normal services.



* CLASS CONTENT
How-to's of the course, taught by members of Ashland Fire & Rescue include:
   * Instruction on how to turn off gas electric and water services to your property
   * Basic first aid medical treatment to someone who is injured
   * Neighborhood/community response to a city-wide emergency such as an earthquake or flood
   * Safe rescue and evacuation of a trapped family member or neighbor
   * Home and neighborhood damage assessment following a major event
   * Support to existing community emergency services
