Kelly Joe Phelps set to play at Unitarian Center

Saturday, May 10 is the last concert of the Eclectic Music and More series 2002/2003.  Come see why fans come to see Kelly Joe Phelps from far a field.  So far, I have people coming from Seattle, Portland, Los Angeles and Mt. Shasta.  Tickets are still available but selling fast.  Admission in $15 in advance, $17 at the door and $8 for kids 5-17.  Give me a call at 541-535-3562 and I will hold tickets at the door for you at the presale price.  For more information, check the the website http://www.stclairevents.com/ .

Kelly Joe Phelps is touring in support of his new CD Slingshot Professionals.  Acoustic Guitar said: "Everywhere Kelly Joe Phelps has gone in the past [eight] years, he's left behind a trail of guitarists with wide eyes, shaking heads, and jaws bruised from hitting the floor. . . . He goes deep into that zone where all master musicians go ( hecalls it becoming a 'shine-eyed mister Zen') and unearths songs that grow and change with each performance.  Along the way he takes alarming risks -- reharmonizing, revamping the melody, making up whole songs on the spot..."

"Kelly Joe Phelps has always been something of an explorer.  His career in music has led him from beginnings as an improvisational jazz bassist influenced by Ornette Coleman and John Coltrane to status as a preeminent blues-slide and finger-style guitarist stalking the ghosts of

Mississippi Fred McDowell and Robert Pete Williams... " Performing Songwriter Phelps says about his music:  "Earlier on, I found myself absorbed by the sound of the guitar, by it's inherent possibilities and myriad variations of approach.  These days my curiosity and passion are
piqued  by words -- the music they themselves make -- how best to portray an image musically, and song construction -- how to build a song like a painter's picture, with all its shadow and mystery and light."

This is also the concert when the Martin guitar raffle drawing will be held.  It's too late to send in money, but come to the concertand purchase a ticket for $10.
