Old Siskiyou Barn Summer Concerts

May 11, 2003

Dear Friends of the Old Siskiyou Barn:

We have some exciting concerts scheduled for June and one in August.  We invite you to bring a picnic up and enjoy the outdoor setting of the Barn before each of the concerts begin.  This assumes, of course, that fair weather arrives in the Rogue Valley sometime in June!  We have 4 great events coming up and hope that you will join us for several or all.  Full detailed descriptions of each follow.  As always, to avoid being disappointed, it is best to make your required reservations as early as possible.

Summer Shows:

Leslie Kendall Sings Streisand on Monday, June 16th @ 7:30 PM
Tom Grant, pianist (Steinway Artist) on Thursday, June 26th @ 7:30 PM
Viva Voce & Friends present Singalong Favorites on Saturday, June 28th @ 8 PM
John Nilsen, pianist on Sunday, August 17th @ 7:30 PM

Hope to see you next month and again in August to help celebrate Rick's birthday on the 17th!

Regards,

Joanne and Rick Soued

~~Viva Voce & Friends--an Evening of Singalong Favorites~~
Saturday, June 28th @ 8 PM,  $10

Come join us for another evening of contagious fun.  Each time we do this, folks leave saying, "This is the best time I've had in ages."--they are "flying high" on the joy of shared music and memories.  Rick Soued found a kindred spirit in Tish McFadden when they met years ago for his son's music lessons.  Since then, they've enjoyed weekly sessions of discovering great music to play for themselves and for us.  The focus is on folk and rock music from the 60's and 70's.  Adding to the fun are singer and guitarist, Mike Vediner; pianist Don Harriss; bassist Steve Fain; and vocalist Joanne Soued.  Bring your voice to this show and plan on singing along to familiar favorites that you choose from a list of over 100 song titles.

**For Viva Voce reservations only**  please call Tish McFadden @ 482-5036

~~~*~* Two Benefit Shows Added *~*  ~~~
These are both benefit performances for the Siskiyou Institute
~~ Tom Grant, pianist (Steinway Artist)
Thursday, June 26th @ 7:30 PM,    $25
Tom Grant is a master instrumentalist, inspired songwriter, talented singer and natural entertainer who nimbly walks the line between jazz tradition and modern pop.  This Oregon native plays jazz piano with the harmonic sophistication and deep sense of swing that only comes from more than three decades on the bandstand.  Born to show business parents, he learned many musical instruments but always returned to the piano.  Tom embarked on a recording and touring career after graduation from the U of O and worked with such jazz greats as Woody Shaw, Joe Henderson, Charles Lloyd and Tony Williams. His music has graced television shows and commercials, radio shows and movie scores.   Since 1983, Tom's records have repeatedly topped the Smooth Jazz charts and in 1997, Tom was accorded the prestigious status of Steinway Artist.  The first non-classical Steinway artist in the Pacific Northwest, he joins the ranks of legendary pianists from Vladimir Horowitz to Keith Jarrett.
Tom has been involved in many different charities nationwide during the past three decades, and continues to donate his time and talents to many causes.  We are delighted that Tom will be performing, along with his base player, at the Old Siskiyou Barn to help us raise necessary matching funds for music education grants awarded to the non-profit Siskiyou Institute.  For more information about Tom, visit his website at:  www.tomgrant.com
~~ John Nilsen, pianist
Sunday, August 17th @ 7:30 PM,    $25
Pianist John Nilsen is one of the most successful recording artists in the Northwest.  With over 430,000 records sold, Nilsen performs his original instrumental pieces of jazz, classical, folk and rock throughout the world.  Born in Washington, he and his family have been residents of Oregon since 1960.
Influenced by The Beatles; Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young; Pat Metheny and Bruce Cockburn, John tried his hand at rock and roll after graduating from Southern Oregon University by serving as guitarist/vocalist for several bands in the 70's and 80's.  Presently, he is performing both solo piano concerts and concerts with the John Nilsen Group.  John's music appears on his own label, Magic Wing and his latest CD is called Across Oregon.  It is his fourteenth release and inspired and written about the state John calls home.  We are pleased that John will be performing at the Old Siskiyou Barn to help us raise necessary matching funds for music education grants awarded to the non-profit Siskiyou Institute.  For more information, visit John's website at:  www.johnnilsen.com
