RVTD - Spring 2003 enews


***May is National Bike to Work Month:
The League of American Bicyclists for the 47th consecutive year has declared  May as National Bike to Work Month. May 12~16th is National Bike to Work Week,
and May 16th is National Bike to Work Day. So dust off the trusty bike and helmet, enjoy our spring weather and treat yourself to a little extra exercise.

***Rogue Valley Council of Governments (RVCOG) Joins Rogue Valley Transportation Management Association:
RVCOG has become a member of the Rogue Valley Transportation Management
Association (RVTMA). The RVTMA is an organization of employers working to support low cost, behavior based, transportation solutions. The RVTMA meets on
the first Tuesday of each month at 2:30pm, in the RVTD boardroom at 3200 Crater Lake Ave. The RVTMA web site is http://www.rvtma.org/.

***New General Manager in RVTD~s near future:
RVTD~s Board of Directors is in the process of hiring a new general manager. A new general manager may be on the job as early as mid June.

***Rogue Valley Metropolitan Planning Organization (RVMPO) allocates over $900,000 to RVTD for seven projects that will help to improve air quality in
the region:
Funded projects include: $362,100 for a partnership with the City of Medford and the Medford School District to build sidewalks and promote a Safe Routes to School Program, $188,931 for passenger information systems, $21,502 for 3 bike racks on all RVTD buses,  $80,940 for bicycle education programs, $157,194 for an annual TDM/Smart Growth conference, $108,630 for the Rogue Valley Transportation Management Association, and $58,575 for employer trip reduction incentives. This funding will be available starting in late 2003 or early 2004.

***Route 4 Service from Downtown Medford to Rogue Valley Medical Center
Doubles:
RVTD now serves Rogue Valley Medical Center every 30 minutes instead of every hour.  RVTD expects to see strong increases in ridership as a result of this change. This is the second route in the past 8 months on which RVTD has
increased service. Funding for the service increase was made possible by the RVMPO.

***RVTD Wins Special Districts Association of Oregon (SDAO) Outstanding Achievement Award:
The Special Districts Association of Oregon has selected RVTD as winner of the
SDAO ~Outstanding Achievement Award~.  The award recognizes RVTD~s Interactive Bus Marketing and Education Program developed by RVTD~s marketing director Richard Smith. RVTD was selected from among 800 Oregon special districts for this award.

***RVTD Education programs reach another 6000 for the 02/03 School Year:
RVTD~s education programs will have reached over 6000 students during the 2002/2003 school year. RVTD education programs are made possible by sponsors;
RVMC/Asante, KOBI Channel 5, Fox Channel 26, Gillespie Decals Inc., Medford Firefighters Union, Rogue Valley Mall, Safe Kids Coalition, and Central Art
Supply.

***Online Carpool Matching Web Site Gains Momentum:
Sign up to start or join a carpool at http://www.carpoolmatchnw.org/. This online carpool matching application covers all of Oregon and parts of Southwest
Washington and Northern California.

***RVTD Offers Transportation Fairs to Area Employers:
To schedule a transportation fair at your job site, call Dan Masi at RVTD 541-608-2411. Dan will bring bagels, and transportation information to you. Get bus schedules, carpool information, bicycle maps, a chance to earn free coffee drinks, and more...

***The City of Medford Joins the Rogue Valley Transportation Management Association:
The City of Medford has become a member of the Rogue Valley Transportation Management Association (RVTMA). ***Ashland Bike Swap Scheduled for May 31st:
Ashland~s Bicycle and Pedestrian Commission is organizing this years bike swap.
The swap will be in Ashland on Saturday May 31st at 1175 East Main St. Don~t~ miss the great deals on bikes and bike stuff! Registration for those selling items is from 7:00 am to 11:00 am, the sale is open from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm. and unsold products pickup is from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Four new bikes will be raffled off at 1:30 pm.
