relocating. ashland vs. bend...

hi there. great website. can anyone out there tell me how they like living in ashland. i am looking to move with my family to a beautiful town, with great education, climate, 4 seasons, sunshine and quaint downtown...with organic grocery stores. the flyers sent to me seemed like ashland was mainly for older, retired couples and I did not get any sense of youth or community for my young family to thrive. also, i keep hearing how great bend is now. please advise. thank you in advance.

RE: relocating. ashland vs. bend...

I do not know how anyone can describe Ashland as a town mainly for old people! Nothing can be farther from the truth! For one thing Southern Oregon University is located here which brings in a vibrant younger population. Your description of Ashland is right on except it excludes the fact that a short 35 minutes from downtown you have Mt. Ashland ski resort which is a mom and pop style, low key ski area with anything but slopes designed for the aged. We also boast one of the most dynamic trail running communities with many opportunities for trail running right in our backyard. For a small town the night life here is thriving with theatres, music events, fire dancers performing in the plaza, and a host of down right fun bars and restaurants. It is true that our community provides for our elders with top notch medical facilities and a host of activities geared for the retired community, but do not let these services mislead you to believe that Ashland is just a retirement community. Ashland is a great place to raise a family, I have lived here for 14 years and am raising my son 11, and my daughter 14 here and I cannot imagine a more ideal place to raise a family! Actually if one had to summarize our town I would say it is a dynamic, exciting and beautiful town that has something to offer all ages that love the outdoors and a strong sense of community!
Good luck finding a town that beats Ashland!
